This is one that is close to me.  I have stage 1 Chronic Kidney disease that is now in remission, completely thanks to walking!

Why Walk?

With the increase in diabetes and high blood pressure — two major kidney disease risk factors — kidney disease is on the rise. We’re working to reach the 1 in 3 American adults at risk with important prevention messages before it’s too late. Each year, more than 75,000 walkers join the NKF to raise over $8 million to help kidney patients and their families. Your participation in our events has never been more critical.

How is the money used?

More than 80 cents of every dollar raised for the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) goes directly to support programs and services including:

Trained, caring professionals who provide information, support and resources to people affected by kidney disease through a toll-free patient help line and email.

Peer support through NKF PEERS, our free, national telephone-based support program that connects those experiencing chronic kidney disease with NKF-trained mentors who have been through a similar experience.

Advocacy efforts to improve the quality of life for kidney patients and reducing transplant waiting times.

NKF Research Grant program, including the Young Investigator Grants program for beginning scientists.

Free local KEEP Healthy® events throughout the United States. Patients are tested for kidney disease risk factors and receive educational information and a clinician consultation.

Community-based education through “Your Kidneys and You,” a volunteer-led presentation on risk factors and prevention of kidney disease.

Patient and professional education programs and resources, such as smartphone apps, NKF Spring Clinical meetings, professional journals, and a vast library of printed publications on a variety of topics.

NKF meets the comprehensive standards of America’s most experienced charity evaluator, the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance.

How much does it cost to walk?

There is no registration fee, however, all participants are asked to fundraise. Your fundraising dollars provide life-saving programs and services to the 30 million (1 in 7) American adults currently living with chronic kidney disease and the 1 in 3 adults at risk.

Walk for hope.
Walk for health.
Walk to save and change lives for the better.
