How to Lose Weight Walking, getting Steps in, and NOT Dieting!

It’s TRUE!!!! You can lose weight without dieting, I am living proof! It is much slower but it works and can be a fantastic lifestyle change, not just for weight but for your health! I do believe to improve your health even more, you do need to eat more REAL food and less ultra processed foods!

Check out 100 Benefits of Walking! So many reasons for us to walk!

First! You will need some way to count your steps. I have used Omron pedometer and different Fitbits. Love both of them! The Omron is more simple pedometer mostly for just counting steps but very accurate. The Fitbit is a activity tracker and much more! Also now very accurate! You can use anything that counts steps, just make sure it is accurate.

Great little video on checking your accuracy!

Next you need to know how many steps to walk. The easiest and best way is to put on your tracker and don’t even think about it. Just walk normally for 7 days, then get the average steps you take per week. Now add 500 steps or walk a minimum of 2,000 steps a day (a 15-minute walk). Each week, add 500 steps until you reach the goal of 10,000 steps (approximately 5 miles) per day. Or 15,000, 20,000 etc. steps per day. It is all up to you!

Below is an awesome Pedometer Step Converter, if you want to know how many calories your are burning with your steps. Your pedometer and/or activity tracker may also tell you. You want to burn 250 calories per day to lose 1/2 pound per week or more to lose more per week.

So now we have our tracker, how many steps we want to work for and now ways to get them in..

Housewalking

Housewalking is my new obsession! I coined the term to refer to my recent habit of walking around the house whenever I can — instead of sitting or standing, I’m constantly housewalking! It all started when I began wearing a Fitbit to keep track of my daily steps — I was aiming for that recommended 10,000 per day. I found that when I was low on steps in the afternoon, I’d just stroll around my house to get the number up. Then I realized how easy it is to rack up major steps this way. So I started housewalking whenever I could, and now I’m averaging 20,000 steps per day. Amazing! All those extra steps mean extra calories burned. Plus, I have so much more energy, and I feel better, in general.

Why is housewalking so great? It doesn’t require much — no gym membership, treadmill, or warm weather needed — and anyone can do it. You don’t even need a house! An apartment or even a hotel room will do. And walking (or jogging) in place totally counts. You don’t need a Fitbit either (although I do love mine) — any pedometer or other step-counting tool works. Once you’ve got it, start walking or walking in place whenever you’re at home. Brushing your teeth? Housewalk! Texting? Housewalk (in place)! Watching TV? Housewalk (around the room)! You’ll be blown away how quickly it all adds up. The other day, I clocked 600 steps while opening mail, 200 while flossing, and a solid thousand while chatting with my mom on the phone!

Try it and, trust me, you’ll soon be obsessed too. In fact, I’m challenging everyone right now to start housewalking and see how many steps per day they can get in. Report your progress on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #housewalking. Can’t wait to see how everyone does!

By the way, I read that Old Order Amish walk significantly more than other Americans, and they’re among the communities with the lowest rates of obesity in North America. That’s great! Let’s give them a run (or should I say, a walk) for their money.

Happy housewalking! Thank you, Hungry Girl!

Last, you can eat however you have been. I still ate same portions and same food. Now that I have lost over 60 pounds and still losing, I am trying to choose more REAL food when I can.

LOL, love this, I have said this before!
